Geronimo’s Eyes

At first, a life is small enough to hold in your hand,
its soft giggle a constant reminder that love still exists
in a world where grandmothers are allowed to spoil
their grandchildren and Spiderman never dies.

The life, however, retains less water as it grows older,
learning not to trust the Chiquita sticker
on the bananas he buys at the grocery store and

The silent Red Panda caged at the zoo has
Geronimo’s eyes.
